Young Lawyers Offer 3rd grade program
The Knoxville Barristers would like to invite third grade classes in Knox County to participate in a project to help recognize Law Week. Each year, the American Bar Association designates one week during May as "Law Week." Law Week is an opportunity to expand awareness of our laws and justice system and their impact on our lives. As part of our local participation in Law Week, the Knoxville Barristers (the Young Lawyer's Division of the Knoxville Bar Association) is offering to present a video entitled, "Junior Judges: Helping Kids Make Smart Choices".
The video depicts seven real-life scenarios for students to judge what options they have in tough situations and encourages them to make smart choices. The topics include cheating, destroying property, bullying, teasing, stealing, drugs and alcohol, and gangs and weapons. You may preview the video online at:
The purpose of the video is to increase each student's awareness of the legal system. The Knoxville Barristers have been showing video trials conducted by students since Law Week began in 1988, and these showings have been well received. With your permission, we would welcome the opportunity to have a member of the Knoxville Barristers present the video and conduct group discussions with your third grade classes during the month of April, 2015. The presentation lasts about 45 minutes.
If your school is interested in participating in the presentation of "Junior Judges: Helping Kids Make Smart Choices", please complete the form. Confirmation will be sent via e-mail only so please make sure to provide an e-mail address. All requests must be received by Friday, April 3, 2015. To show the video, our presenters will require a television with a DVD player or access to the Internet.
