Volunteer Opportunities

We know that the lawyers who volunteer in our community are not asking for recognition or a pat on the back. They're doing volunteer work because they want to contribute to the community.  KBA members are involved with local and national charities, serve on various community Boards of Directors, provide no-fee legal services to the needy and volunteer their time in countless ways.

Volunteer to serve on a KBA Committee or Section.  Click Here.
Donate an hour to serve a non-profit organization through the Non-Profit Pro Bono Program.  Click Here.

Participate in an upcoming Legal Advice Clinic.  Click Here.
To sign up with the Pro Bono Project, please contact Kathryn Ellis, LAET Pro Bono Director.  Click Here

Volunteer lawyers who participate find that they:
•Have an opportunity to give back to the community in a concrete and impactful way;
•Develop critical lawyering skills and gain experience, such as court appearances, case handling, mediations, transactional work, and client interviewing and management;
•Obtain support through our many trainings and resource materials, and our volunteer expert mentors;
•Work with clients whose cases have been thoroughly screened; and
•Gain exposure and develop communication skills in various legal settings.

Just as important, the members of the Knoxville Bar actively contribute to these community service endeavors through extensive personal effort and sacrifice.

Volunteer with a Community Organization
The Access to Justice Committee of the Knoxville Bar Association knows that our organization is blessed with dedicated volunteers who are committed to help the less fortunate in our community. The goal in developing this Online Volunteer Directory is to allow attorneys flexibility in serving the community by choosing the ways that best fit their individual skills and circumstances.

Our goal is to update this resource so if you are aware of other organizations in our community who help people in need, please ask them to complete this form or contact the KBA Office at 865-522-6522.

Our community will be better because of the leadership and commitment of Knoxville lawyers. Get involved by reviewing the list of agencies. We hope you find something in this directory that you care about and volunteer. The volunteer handbook was printed in September 2012 and was made possible due to a donation from the Bench and Bar Fund from the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Tennessee. The material in the handbook was excerpted from the Compassion Coalition's Salt & Light Guidebook. The Knoxville Bar Association is grateful to the Compassion Coalition for permitting us to share this wonderful resource with our members. For more information, visit the Compassion Coalition's website at www.compassioncoalition.org.
