April 30, 2021
Knoxville Bar Association
The Law Day CLE program "Advancing The Rule of Law, Now" was originally presented and recorded on April 30, 2021.
The rule of law is the bedrock of American rights and liberties in times of calm and unrest alike. The ABA Law Day theme, Advancing the Rule of Law, Now, reminds all of us that we the people share the responsibility to promote the rule of law, defend liberty, and pursue justice. Our distinguished panel will discuss the rule of law in America today and how we can advance the rule of law to protect rights and secure the blessings of liberty in a society where no one is above the law, equal justice under the law prevails, and the judiciary is independent, for ourselves and our future generations.
Presenters: Hon. Alberto Gonzales, Former US Attorney General Dean, Belmont Law
Andre Johnson, Knox Co. Public Defender's Community Law Office
Phyllis Y. Nichols, President and CEO of the Knoxville Area Urban League
Hon. Steven W. Sword, Knox County Criminal Court Div. I
Penny J. White, E.E. Overton Distinguished Professor UT College of Law
