Summary

The CLE Program "Lawyer, Judge, ADDICT? Battling Stigma & Avoidance" was originally presented and recorded on September 13, 2019.

The legal community is falling short when it comes to well-being. With roughly 1 in 4 attorneys experiencing some form of issue with substance abuse and/or depression, practicing law is a high risk profession and our bar has been fractured by visible issues in the past. This panel has experience with the issues of addiction, recovery, and the rules of ethics governing attorney and judicial competence, and will discuss detection of the disease of addiction and the applicable rules of ethics. What signs do you look for when it comes to addiction? Now more than ever, attorneys, judges and law students are facing challenges with stress, anxiety, and mental illness – and this struggle all too often results in substance abuse, depression, or even suicide.

Speakers: Hon. Mary Beth Leibowitz, Retired Criminal Court Judge, Hon. Kelly Thomas, Court of Criminal Appeals, Hon. Robert L. Childers, Retired Circuit Court Judge and Joanie Stewart, Attorney at Law (moderator)

(If you have any questions about the program please contact the Joanie Stewart @ joaniestallard@yahoo.com)

Approved for 1 hour of "Online" Dual CLE Credit.

IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY: Please verify when you register for an online CLE course that you have not previously attended the program during the live presentation or the video replay series offered twice a year. The CLE Commission will not approve CLE credit for the same course even if it is taken in a different calendar year.
