The Ethics of Marketing Online to Millennials

Millennials are about to be the largest generation in the work force. Being digital natives this group has higher expectations of your web presence. We will walk through the expectations of the typical millennial user and show you the tools and technologies you should be incorporating into your online presence to attract this generation. Of course, with these new tools also come new ethic concerns with regards to marketing.  Attorneys will learn: (1) Expectations and habits of the typical millennial prospect; (2) Updating your web presence to support millennial users; (3) How to be an on-demand, 24/7, always on law firm; (4) Ethical Issues Surrounding Posting on Social Media; and (5) Ethical Issues Surrounding texting, online-chat, and client portals. This CLE delivers a lot of educational content about the millennial generation with regards to working with them online as a prospect or a client. Law firms will leave the CLE with the best knowledge to navigate their online presence ethically when adapting it to the millennial prospect.

Using Data and Analytics to Manage and Improve Your Law Firm + Ethics of Securing your Data

What does day to day management of a law firm look like when the data from software tools and analytics are used to make decisions? The old adage goes “what gets measured gets managed”. You can track a lot of data now, from client satisfaction, utilization rates, and receivables, to intake, conversion rates, website traffic and social media mentions. With the right know-how, you have the ability to track and measure this data to begin predicting what the next few months of business will look like for your law firm.  With more data comes the issue of data security and in this session the presenter will cover: (1) The data you should track to calculate the leading indicators of your law firm’s future success; (2) Using scorecards to drive the management of your law firm; (3) Real examples from a successful data-driven law practice; (4) How Model Rule 1.1 on Competence, Rule 1.6 on Confidentiality, and Rule 5.3 on Nonlawyer Assistance are requiring law firms to be up to date on data security issues; (5) The most current “Reasonable Efforts” to understand about data security; and (6) Cloud Computing and the latest cloud computing ethics opinions.  Following this CLE course, lawyers will understand the various technologies available to them to help improve how they best use data to better manage their law firm and the latest data security approaches law firms need to take to stay in compliance with their state’s professional ethics rules.

Managing Your Online Reputation Ethically & Professionally

Your legal reputation is influenced by what you do. But words also matter, especially what other people say about you on the Internet. You can influence online dialogue to enhance your professional stature. In this session, learn what tasteful tools and methods are appropriate for lawyers to use; the #1 most powerful thing you can do to impact your online reputation; why an effective website is crucial for small firm lawyers, and WAY more affordable than you probably imagine; a fantastic tool for following up with site visitors; how social media is over-rated and mostly useless for influencing your online reputation; and why the most powerful secret to online reputation building isn’t technology, but something simpler and more profound.

Ernie Svenson handled complex commercial litigation matters for 18 years in a big New Orleans firm for 18 years. His practice was frustrating and hard to manage because of the massive amounts of paper, mind-boggling overhead, and soul-crushing billable hour quotas. Then he discovered how to create a paperless practice. That enabled him to automate key workflows— instead of begging paralegals to push paper and then stay on top of them to make sure they did it right. He also learned that having a low-cost weblog was a powerful way to build trust online, from which then came a steady flow of great new clients. These discoveries allowed him to create a fulfilling solo practice. One that was Ninja-efficient, easy to manage, and financially lucrative. Now, he helps fellow lawyers use technology to modernize their own practices. Ernie is a nationally recognized speaker and author on various topics such as paperless lawyering, email efficiency, document automation, and online marketing.
