WEBINAR: The Ethical Duties of a Family Law Mediator: What to Do When A Lawyer Gives Bonehead Advice

Registration
Event:
Tue, March 9, 2021
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM ET

Details

The CLE Program "The Ethical Duties of a Family Law Mediator: What to Do When A Lawyer Gives Bonehead Advice" will be presented as a Webinar presentation on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 from 12 - 1 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time). The program is approved for 1 hour of dual "distance learning" CLE credit and 1 hour of ethics CME credit.

Mediators are neutrals. Mediators cannot give legal advice during the course of the mediation. But, does the mediator have any duty to correct clearly incorrect legal advice or factual misunderstandings during the mediation? How should the mediator respond when an attorney tells their client they can quit their job to avoid paying child support? What should the mediator do when an attorney tells their client that all alimony is tax deductible? Should the mediator say anything when an attorney tells their client that 2 + 2 = 539? Join in a discussion about the ethical obligations of the mediator and practical tips to resolve tough family law cases

Presenter: C. Scott Taylor, Bernstein, Stair & McAdams, LLP

*A online reservation is required in advance of the program. Registrants will receive a confirmation e-mail the day before the event which will contain a link to join the meeting via Zoom and links to the Handout Material and CLE Attendance Form.

Call (865) 522-6522 with questions.

ZOOM INSTRUCTIONS

1.  You can join this meeting with almost any device. For mobile devices, find the Zoom Meetings on the App Store or Google Play Store and pre-install. For a desktop or laptop computer, the link to pre-install is: https://zoom.us/download. You can then leave the meeting and then re-join again at the appointed meeting time. Absent a computer or mobile device, you can just join with a telephone call (audio only), but the best meeting experience by far is to use a computer or iPad, so you can see others and what is being presented.

2.  For computer/mobile device connection: If you don’t already have the Meetings app installed, you will be prompted to do a quick installation when you click the meeting link. Once installed, you don’t need to “sign in” or “create an account”, you just need to join the meeting. Only the host of a meeting has to have an account. Once you join with your computer, you will be asked if you want to use the computer audio or dial in by telephone for your audio. You can use computer audio if you have a headset or are on a mobile device or laptop with camera/mic – webcams are encouraged; otherwise, dial in via telephone for your audio, following the on-screen instructions.

3. If you encounter any technical difficulties at all during the meeting, and it is persistent, sometimes it is best just to leave the meeting and then rejoin it. If you encounter any difficulties or have questions as a result of the test above, just contact KBA Office well before the meeting so that we can resolve.
