Hugh Whitford Morgan - In Memoriam

The Knoxville Bar Association and its members remember the friends of the association who may be gone, but not forgotten. We value their service to the community through their work toward justice and hope that this may serve as a tribute to them.

Posted on: Dec 31, 2016

Hugh Whitford Morgan, 79, was born in Huntingdon, Tennessee on February 2, 1937. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1954, and then graduated with an engineering degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point with the class of 1958. Hugh served six years on active duty in the U.S. Army Signal Corps as an aviator, achieving the rank of Captain. After leaving the Army, he attended the University of Tennessee College of Law, graduating with honors in 1967. Hugh practiced law with Kramer, Rayson, Leake, Rodgers & Morgan. He was a skilled trial lawyer with an aptitude for complex and difficult cases. Hugh built and programmed computers long before personal computers became standard office equipment. He enjoyed history, genealogy, nature, and hiking. Hugh died unexpectedly August 10, 2016, during a hike in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with his cherished companion, Heather Crawley.
