Jay Arthur Garrison - In Memoriam

Jay Arthur Garrison

Jay Arthur Garrison passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2012. He was 63. Mr. Garrison was the valedictorian of the 1967 class of Knoxville Central High School and attended the University of Tennessee as a Neyland Scholar. He marched four years in the Pride of the Southland Marching Band. His devotion to music was evidenced in 2006 when he was named a lifetime member of the Pride of the Southland for his work with the Alumni Band Association. Mr. Garrison attended the University of Tennessee and received a B.S. in History (with high honors, 1971), and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1975. While at the University, he was a Neyland Scholar, a Distinguished Military Graduate, and received the Judge John Greene Scholarship in law school. Mr. Garrison was an officer in the U.S. Army Adjutant General’s Corps. He received his law degree from the University of Tennessee, and he practiced law for 35 years with the firms of Cheek, Taylor and Groover, Kennerly, Montgomery & Finley and Holifield & Associates. Mr. Garrison’s practice was concentrated primarily in Estate Planning, Elder Law and Probate Law. He was a Chancellor of the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church and has served on the Judicial Council of the United Methodist Church.
