Healthy Bar Challenge


 

The KBA Wellness Committee encourages all KBA members to take time away from their desks and participate in activities that benefit their physical, mental, and financial well-being. Join the 2025 Healthy Bar Challenge, sponsored by the KBA Wellness Committee and First Horizon. You can participate on your own or partner up with up to 3 other KBA Members to work as a team.

The Challenge begins Wednesday, October 1, 2025. After you register, you will receive an email with this year’s Activity Tracking Sheet (and an explanation of how to complete it) closer to the start of the Challenge.

2025 Healthy Bar Challenge General Information:

  • Accumulate points by tracking your time doing physical, mental, and financial wellness activities from October 1-31, 2025. You get 1 point per hour (tracked in 15-minute increments).
     
  • Collect bonus points by participating in our Weekly Incentive Activities (2 bonus points), our Wellness Committee Sponsored Activities (3 bonus points), and First Horizon’s Financial Wellness Checkup (4 bonus points).
     
  • Complete the Weekly Incentive Activity for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate. A winner will be randomly selected from those who are eligible.  Winners will be announced in the KBA’s Friday email and on its social media accounts.
     
  • Participants will document their progress on the Healthy Bar Challenge’s Activity Tracking Sheet, which will be emailed to you once you register. 
     
  • Participants will submit their Activity Tracking Sheet to Alicia Teubert (ateubert@wmbac.com) by Monday, November 3, 2025, at 6:00 P.M. for tabulation. 
     
  • The top 10 individuals and top 3 teams will receive prizes, and there will be recognition given in a variety of other categories at the Challenge Breakfast on November 12, 2025, from 8-9 AM in the Small Assembly Room, City County Building. Breakfast will be available as an add-on for $10. FAQs:

Who can participate?

The KBA Healthy Bar Challenge is open to KBA members (including law student members) only.
 

How do I make a team?

Teams can have 3 or 4 members. The team members can be from the same firm/organization, different firms/organizations, or any combination, but all members of the team must be KBA members.  Select a team name and have each team member include the team’s name on their registration.
 

What qualifies as a Physical, Mental, or Financial Wellness Activity?

We are relying on the honor system and want you to be very broad and inclusive in your interpretation. Examples include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Physical Wellness Activities: walking, running, biking, swimming, kayaking/SUP, martial arts, aerobics, sports, weightlifting, stretching, yoga, golf, dancing, gardening/yardwork, and others.
  • Mental Wellness Activities: acupuncture, art therapy, breathwork, gratitude practice, journaling, meditation, reading (not work related), and others.
  • Financial Wellness Activities: budgeting, consulting a financial advisor, learning about financial literacy (podcasts, YouTube, books, etc.), reviewing or creating estate planning documents or beneficiary designations, reviewing your financial plan or retirement account allocations, reviewing insurance coverages, and others.


What are the Weekly Incentive Activities?

  • Week 1: Healthy Food Choices Week – Whether consciously choosing healthy snacks or meal prepping, focus on eating healthy this week.  Consider attending our Farmer’s Market Tour.
     
  • Week 2: Giving Back to Others Week – Community Service - Help others, help yourself. Perform a volunteer activity this week. Consider participating in one or both of our community service events.
     
  • Week 3: Show Your Tennessee Pride - Perform any outside wellness activity somewhere within the State of Tennessee. Consider participating in the Barrister’s Golf Tournament.
     
  • Week 4: Bring Wellness to Others - Include another KBA member in any wellness activity. Consider bringing a fellow KBA member to the Wellness Conference or the Fall Hike.
     
  • Week 5: Healthy Kids/Healthy Pets - Include your child(ren), the child(ren) of a consenting parent/guardian, or your pet in any wellness activity.  Consider bringing a child (over the age of 16) to the Fly Dance Fitness Class.

 

How do I get a chance to win a $25 gift certificate each week?

To be eligible, you will need to complete that week’s Incentive Activity and email Alicia Teubert with the required information by the applicable submission deadline.  A winner will be randomly selected from those who are eligible.  Winners will be announced in the KBA’s Friday email and on its social media accounts.

We will send additional information about the Weekly Incentive Activities, submission requirements, and submission deadline to participants each week.

 

What are the Wellness Committee Sponsored Activities?

  • Tuesday Weekly Walk (6:00 PM at Lakeshore Park each week) (free)
     
  • Friday Weekly Walk (7:00 AM at Lakeshore Park) (free)
     
  • **Farmer's Market Tour Led by Nourish Knoxville on Wednesday, October 1st - 12:00 PM @ Market Square (free). Register early so that we can get you a link to the Nourish Moves waiver so that you can arrive ready to grab a pedometer and start participating right away. Register here.
     
  • “Tax Strategies for Retirement” webinar event on Wednesday, October 1st - 3:00 PM via Zoom (free). George Gilliam of TVC Trust and Wealth Management will present on strategies to reduce your taxes in retirement. Register here.
     
  • **RideTribe Indoor Cycling Fundraising Event on Monday, October 6th – 8:15 PM at RideTribe Indoor Cycling Bearden. Open to HBC participants, friends, and family. Registration fee $10.00. We will draw a name from the participants in the ride, and that person will get to select a charity from a list of charities to receive the proceeds. Register here. We’ll get your information to RideTribe who will complete the registration process.
     
  • “Money Matters: A Financial Q&A for Young Lawyers” webinar event on Wednesday, October 8th from 12:00-1:00 PM via Zoom (free). An engaging panel of financial minds will address young lawyers most pressing personal finance questions, including budgeting, debt, investing, retirement accounts, and more. Current panelists: Justin Stivers, Stivers Wealth Management; Daniel Dunn, Shanks & Blackstock; Claire Kluth, PYA Waltman Capital LLC. Register here.
     
  • **Community Service Event: Keeping Knoxville Beautiful Litter Pickup on Saturday, October 11th from 8:30 AM-10:30 AM @ Victor Ashe Park (free). Meet in the parking lot. KKB will provide litter pickers, reflective vests, gloves, and trash bags. Register here.
     
  • **KBA Barrister’s Lawyers Link Up Charity Golf Tournament on Monday, October 13th - 9:00 AM @ Tennessee National Golf Club ($150 per person). Register here.
     
  • “Winning All 3 Phases of Your Financial Gameplan” webinar event on Wednesday, October 15th at 12:00 PM via Zoom (free). A high-level panel discussion on banking, investment, insurance options, and the interworking of each for developing a complete financial strategy. Register here.
     
  • **KBA Wellness Conference on Thursday, October 23rd in the Small Assembly Room of the City/County Building.  Attend one or all of the events: (i) Health Fair from 8:30 – 11:30 AM (free), (ii) Walk with Jack Neely from 11:00 – 11:45 (free), and (iii) the CLE from 12:00 – 1:00PM ($40).   • **Fall Hike – Joint KBA Professionalism and Wellness Committee Event on Saturday, October 25th time and location TBD (free). Bring a fellow KBA member to qualify for the Weekly Incentive Prize. Register here.
     
  • **Fly Dance Fitness Class on Wednesday, October 29th at 6:30 at Fly Dance Fitness (8079 Kingston Pike, Suite L Knoxville, TN 37919) - arrive at 6:00 for fellowship. Open to KBA members, plus one guest over the age of 16 (max of 35 people, $10 per person). Bring a child over the age of 16 to qualify for the Weekly Incentive Prize. Register here.
