Details

The CLE program "Combatting Racial Bias in the Judicial System" will be presented as a Webinar presentation on Thursday, February 11, 2021 from 12 - 1 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time). The program has been approved for 1 hour of dual "distance learning" CLE Credit.

Justice in America is available in varying degrees for different groups of people, and the effects have been highly visible in recent years. Our panelists will explore race-based disparities in the justice system and as these concepts relate to civil and criminal litigation, using scientific data and real-world success stories. Learn about creative efforts private practitioners are pursuing to give back to the community and strengthen relationships between the judicial system and minority communities.

Presenters:
Akram Faizer, LMU - Duncan School of Law
Stephen Ross Johnson, Ritchie, Dillard, Davies & Johnson

Christina Magrans-Tillery, City of Knoxville Law Department
Jay Moneyhun, Bass, Berry & Sims PLC
Jessica Van Dyke, Tennessee Innocence Project

ZOOM INSTRUCTIONS

1.  You can join this meeting with almost any device. For mobile devices, find the Zoom Meetings on the App Store or Google Play Store and pre-install. For a desktop or laptop computer, the link to pre-install is: https://zoom.us/download. You can then leave the meeting and then re-join again at the appointed meeting time. Absent a computer or mobile device, you can just join with a telephone call (audio only), but the best meeting experience by far is to use a computer or iPad, so you can see others and what is being presented.

2.  For computer/mobile device connection: If you don’t already have the Meetings app installed, you will be prompted to do a quick installation when you click the meeting link. Once installed, you don’t need to “sign in” or “create an account”, you just need to join the meeting. Only the host of a meeting has to have an account. Once you join with your computer, you will be asked if you want to use the computer audio or dial in by telephone for your audio. You can use computer audio if you have a headset or are on a mobile device or laptop with camera/mic – webcams are encouraged; otherwise, dial in via telephone for your audio, following the on-screen instructions.

3. If you encounter any technical difficulties at all during the meeting, and it is persistent, sometimes it is best just to leave the meeting and then rejoin it. If you encounter any difficulties or have questions as a result of the test above, just contact KBA Office well before the meeting so that we can resolve.
