Law Practice Today Webinar Series
The CLE Program "Law Firms and the War Against Ransomware: How to Prevent, Respond and Recover" will be presented as a Webinar presentation on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, from 12 - 1 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time). The program is approved for 1 hour of dual "distance learning" CLE credit.
Law firms are constantly under attack from advanced cyber threats, such as ransomware. Even with the increased focus on cybersecurity, most law firms have not done enough to keep their data protected and systems safe. Today’s ransomware often steals your confidential data before it's encrypted. Frequently, we now see two ransoms demanded, one for the decryption key and one for a promise (because cybercriminals are so honorable) to destroy your data. Many law firms are paying, sometimes because they have cyber insurance, and paying is cheaper than being inoperative for an extended period of time. How do law firms get ransomware? How can they defend against it? If stricken, how should they handle the attack? Should you pay the ransom? Is it illegal to pay the ransom? Spoiler alert: Sometimes it is. How do you recover from a ransomware attack? Michael Maschke from Sensei Enterprises, Inc. will offer chilling stories of law firms crippled by ransomware, along with tips for defending against and responding to ransomware.

ZOOM INSTRUCTIONS
1. You can join this meeting with almost any device. For mobile devices, find the Zoom Meetings on the App Store or Google Play Store and pre-install. For a desktop or laptop computer, the link to pre-install is: https://zoom.us/download. You can then leave the meeting and then re-join again at the appointed meeting time. Absent a computer or mobile device, you can just join with a telephone call (audio only), but the best meeting experience by far is to use a computer or iPad, so you can see others and what is being presented.
2. For computer/mobile device connection: If you don’t already have the Meetings app installed, you will be prompted to do a quick installation when you click the meeting link. Once installed, you don’t need to “sign in” or “create an account”, you just need to join the meeting. Only the host of a meeting has to have an account. Once you join with your computer, you will be asked if you want to use the computer audio or dial in by telephone for your audio. You can use computer audio if you have a headset or are on a mobile device or laptop with camera/mic – webcams are encouraged; otherwise, dial in via telephone for your audio, following the on-screen instructions.
3. If you encounter any technical difficulties at all during the meeting, and it is persistent, sometimes it is best just to leave the meeting and then rejoin it. If you encounter any difficulties or have questions as a result of the test above, just contact KBA Office well before the meeting so that we can resolve.
