KBA Board urges legislators to reinstate funding to LSC
Letter to Appropriations Committee Letter to Senators and Representatives
The KBA, along with numerous local and state bar associations across the country, recognize the severity of the President Trump’s proposed budget cuts which eliminate funding for the Legal Services Corporations (LSC). The American Bar Association has asked the KBA to send letters to our members of Congress by close of business this Friday, March 31, 2017, regarding LSC funding in the federal budget. With approval by the KBA Board of Governors, KBA President, Amanda Busby, has prepared two letters: (1) to all Tennessee Senators and Representatives; and (2) to the House and Senate Appropriations Committee Leaders. Both letters are based off an ABA model form letter with additional language added regarding the local impact on Legal Aid of East Tennessee that currently receives approximately 50% of its funding from LSC on an annual basis.
