In 1994, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee established a Federal Mediation Program. The District Judges, Bankruptcy Judges and Magistrate Judges have approved a panel of mediators who must meet certain qualifications. Parties to a pending Federal Court case who agree to mediation must select a mediator from the official list of mediators certified by the court. In 1996, the Tennessee Supreme Court adopted Rule 31 of the Rules of the Supreme Court of Tennessee which dealt with alternative dispute resolution. Pursuant to Rule 31, the Tennessee Supreme Court has published a list of mediators who are approved and must be used to mediate cases which proceed under this Rule. These mediators must meet extensive training and other requirements before being approved by the Supreme Court.

The following lists are those members of the Knoxville Bar Association who are approved mediators on the Federal Court Mediation Panel and/or the list of the approved mediators adopted by the Tennessee Supreme Court. These lists are published by the Knoxville Bar Association as a gratuitous benefit to the legal profession generally, and it assumes no responsibility for the abilities of those attorneys listed, not does it assume any liability or responsibility with respect to any actions of these attorneys. Additional information can be acquired through the Clerk of the U.S. District Court for Federal Court cases and by referring to Rule 31 of the Supreme Court Rules regarding mediations in state court.
