The Knoxville Bar Association Lawyer
Referral & Information Service is open Monday - Thursday from 9:00 am -
12:00 noon and 1:00 - 4:00 pm. On Friday, the Service closes at 3:00 p.m.
How does the Lawyer Referral & Information Service work?
The
staff of LRIS will arrange a
FREE
thirty minute in-office consultation for
you with an attorney who
practices in the area of law in which you need assistance. The date and time of
the appointment will be scheduled during
your initial call to the Service. You should take any pertinent documents
regarding your case to the consultation with you.
Our
second option offers you a
FREE
telephone consultation. This option is designed for our
out-of-state caller, or for those who may have brief questions regarding
their legal situation. You will be provided the name and phone number of an
attorney who deals in your specific area of law. It will become your
responsibility to contact the attorney directly. This
option provides you with a brief phone consultation.
Please be prepared with a list of questions you may have.
Your initial consultation with an attorney through the Lawyer Referral & Information Service will help
you determine whether you need to hire a lawyer, the approximate cost for the
services of the lawyer, and an estimate of approximately how long it will take
to resolve your legal matter. Please use your consultation wisely and prepare
all of your questions in advance to make sure that you cover all of your
concerns. Once you have had your initial thirty minute consultation, should you
decide to retain the attorney, you will be expected to pay the attorney his or
her normal and customary fees.
Please be aware that our Service does not have attorneys on staff to answer
legal questions, nor can our office provide lists of attorneys names. If you
would like to schedule an appointment with an attorney, need information about a
Lawyer Referral Service in another area or require information about a specific
Knoxville social service or government agency, please complete the form at the
bottom of this page.
Our Service meets the standards for lawyer referral
& information services set by the Tennessee Supreme Court. Working in most areas of the law, our staff will
obtain specific information from you regarding your case and will then refer you
to an attorney experienced and suited to your needs. Our Service does not
offer attorney services based upon income, but may be able to assist you in
finding another resource available in our community.
The
Lawyer Referral and Information Service is designed to serve anyone who can
afford the services of a lawyer. Persons
who have a legal problem and cannot afford a lawyer should
contact the Legal Aid office in their community. For more local
