The Knoxville Bar Association
Annual Law Day Celebration
& CLE Program
The Knoxville Bar Association held its
annual Law Day Luncheon on Friday, May 4, at the Knoxville
Hilton.
Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen was the key note speaker.
Governor Bredesen congratulated Knoxville lawyers on their
service to the community and specifically addressed the value
of lawyers serving in the legislature. In his remarks,
Governor Bredesen discussed the significance of a quality
education for our young people and his goal of improving our
state for future generations. Following the Governor, a panel
of local lawyer legislators and former legislators discussed how
they became involved in public service and how they believe
lawyers can contribute to the legislative process. The
panelists were Mark A. Brown, Esq. (Knoxville City Council,
Sixth District; Law firm of Clark, Brown & Waters), Rob Frost,
Esq. (Knoxville City Council, Fourth District; Law firm of
Arnett, Draper & Hagood), Wayne A. Ritchie, II, Esq. (Tennessee
House of Representatives, 1993-1998; Law firm of Ritchie,
Dillard & Davies, P.C.), and C. Coulter (Bud) Gilbert (Tennessee
Senate, 1990-1998; Law firm of Kennerly, Montgomery & Finley,
P.C.).
The Law Day celebration served as an
opportunity to highlight the numerous public service sponsored
by the Knoxville Barristers, the young lawyers division of the
Knoxville Bar Association. Fourth
