The Law Day Celebration was held on Friday, May 3rd at the Foundry. Click here for more information on the Barristers Law Day Program. The CLE program was entitled "A Passion for Serving our Community" and featured Cornelia A. Clark, Justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court and KBA members Wynne Caffey, Rick Carl, Sam Doak, Kati Goodner and Ian Hennessey.

On April 12, 2013, more than 300 folks participated in the KBA Law Practice Today Expo. This year's Expo included presentations from local and national speakers discussing what the future holds for the legal profession. There were 13 CLE sessions, 31 vendor sponsors and more than 20 local judges who joined us for the judicial roundtable lunch featuring Ashley Capps, AC Entertainment.

The first Happy Hour event of 2013 was held on February 28th at the Downtown Grill & Brewery. The event was sponsored by the Knoxville Barristers & the KBA Functions Committee. A crowd of close to 60 KBA members participated.

On Saturday, January 19, 2013, the YWCA held their annual Diversity Day and Race Against Racism 5k at the Phyllis Wheatley Center, located off of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. The Knoxville Barristers fielded a team of runners including, Attorneys Amy Benner, Caitlin Elam, Leah McClanahan, and John Rice, as well as KBA Law Student Members Alexander Waters and Taylor Askew. KBA President J. William Coley presided over the Annual Meeting of the Knoxville Bar Association on Friday, December 14, 2012. The following KBA members were elected as officers for 2012: Wade V. Davies - President-Elect, Tasha C. Blakney - Treasurer and – Wayne R. Kramer - Secretary. The membership elected the following to the four open positions on the Board of Governors: Doug Blaze, Chris McCarty, Hanson Tipton, and Chancellor John Weaver. Heidi A. Barcus assumed the presidency of the Knoxville Bar Association at the close of the meeting.

The Barristers' Annual Meeting and elections were held on Wednesday, December 12, 2012. At that time Katrina Atchley Arbogast, Lewis, King, Krieg & Waldrop became President. Others elected include: Vice President James (Jay) P. Moneyhun Jr., Secretary/Treasurer Baily Perry Bowers, and Members-At-Large Melissa C. Reinders and Matt W. Sherrod.

For the last 17 years, the KBA has offered a free public education series called LawTalk that helps citizens learn more about planning for their own security and that of their family and loved ones. This year more than 300 people attended and Tennova Healthcare was a corporate partner. The KBA would like to thank attorneys Sonny Schow, Keith H. Burroughs, Samantha Parris, Kelly Frère and Matt Frère for their participation in the series.

The KBA Professionalism Committee held its annual fall hike to Historic Rugby on Saturday, October 13. The hike has been an annual tradition of the KBA Professionalism Committee since 2001.

The KBA joined with the UT College of Law and the LMU Duncan School of Law on September 27th to sponsor a Minority Law Student Reception. The event was held at Carleo's in the Old City and 70+ members and law students participated. We were honored to have as our guest speaker City of Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero.

The Annual Supreme Court Dinner was held on September 5, 2012, and more than 500 members and guests were in attendance. Governor Bill Haslam was the featured speaker and Hon. Gary Wade was sworn in as Chief Justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court.

The Knoxville Barristers hosted a summer party on Friday, August 10 at The Sunsphere. Eighty young lawyers and their guests attended and had a wonderful time.
- Sports Law CLE

Seventy-five KBA members and their guests participated in the "Sports Law CLE" held on August 3 at Neyland Stadium. The event was the third in the Exploring East Tennessee CLE series planned by KBA President Bill Coley. The group enjoyed an interesting CLE featuring Judge Tim Irwin, Chad Speck and Brad Lampley and learned Vol football insights from Tim Priest during the reception.

The annual Past Presidents' Dinner is a celebration to express our appreciation to past KBA presidents for their hard work and commitment to the Knoxville Bar Association and the profession of law. This gathering brings together the past Presidents of the Knoxville Bar Association, past Presidents of the Tennessee Bar Association from East Tennessee, the current Knoxville Bar Association Board of Governors, and the current officers of the Knoxville Bar Association for a evening of camaraderie and conversation.
