Questions About the Law? We've got answers.
For most people, today's law is a jumble of legal statutes and court rulings, and can lead to many questions for anyone trying to understand it. Now, the Knoxville Bar Association is offering a series of FREE seminars on today's most important legal topics, presented in plain language by top legal experts. Everyone is welcome to attend and FREE parking is available. Pre-registration is encouraged, but not required. Student handbooks will be distributed. Learn about changes in the law that have had an impact on estate planning, including the 2012 changes to gift and inheritance tax laws. Topics of discussion include wills and trusts, gift and tax planning, Probate options in Tennessee and the importance of living wills and powers of attorney . This session will also address the planning necessary to assure that in case of legal incapacity, your wishes regarding financial and health care decisions will be followed. 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.Legal Protection for Elderly, the Disabled & their Caregivers Learn the differences between Medicare, Medicaid, VA, Railroad Retirement, and EEOICPA benefits and how those programs may or may not help pay for long term care. This session will explain the effect of 2012 change in Medicaid/Tenncare law that defines how "sick" a person has to be to qualify for TennCare assistance. In addition, the program will discuss how advanced directives for seniors should be written to meet the unique needs of seniors.
