The KBA Professionalism Committee asks you to MEET YOUR ADVERSARY FOR LUNCH!

When the Knoxville bar was smaller, attorneys maintained an admirable level of collegiality while zealously representing their clients because the attorneys knew each other personally and often were friends. As the number of attorneys in our community increases, it is less likely that you will know the attorney on the opposite side of your case or transaction in any context other than as an adversary. The Professionalism Committee believes that civility in the practice of law could be improved if we got to know one another as fellow professionals, outside of an adversarial context.

During the period from May 9 ‐ May 20, take action to make the Knoxville legal community a better place ‐ meet your adversary for lunch! Pick one attorney with whom you have a case or a transaction, but whom you do not really know very well, and get to know him or her over lunch (or breakfast or mid‐morning coffee break or afternoon coffee). Talk about your children,
your pets, your vacation, your garden, ANYTHING but your case or transaction.

In support of the "Meet Your Adversary for Lunch" effort, Don and Karen Sproles of
The Lunchbox Market & Café will offer participating lawyers a choice of one of the following:
a free beverage, a free pack of cookies or a free muffin.
