Event Description:

The KBA Criminal Justice Section presents a seminar entitled ”Avoiding State Fee Claim Sanctions” on May 18, 2011 at 12 Noon at the City County Building - Small Assembly Room. The CLE features Hon. Charles A. Cerny, General Sessions Court, Division I; Hon. Patricia H. Long, General Sessions Court, Division III; and Mike Whalen, Attorney at Law.

Our current state financial crisis in general, and for the Administrative Office of the Courts in particular, has resulted in a closer scrutiny of fee claims. The AOC is looking more carefully at lawyers who are generating the highest annual claims. This one-hour educational seminar is offered to all attorneys who file fee claims in state court and all other attorneys and judges who are interested in this issue. General Sessions Court Judges Chuck Cerny and Patricia Long and Attorney Mike Whalen will discuss specific concerns that have come to light and review the mandates of Supreme Court Rule 13.

The program has been approved for one hour of general CLE credit. A reservation is required in advance of the program. There is a five dollar additional fee on the day of the program.

KBA Members not wishing to receive CLE credit may attend the program at no charge (handout materials not included). Reservation required in advance of the program.

Box Lunches from ”Cafe Trio” on Market Square:

The KBA will make arrangements with ”Cafe Trio” to deliver panini box lunches for this CLE program. The box lunch will include a panini sandwich, kettle chips, pickle & cookie. The KBA will provide water and sodas. The cost of the box lunch is set at $ 10.00 and must be pre-ordered through the KBA website. Search for ”Box Lunches” under the CLE Catalog Tab to purchase your box lunch online or call the KBA office at 522-6522 to pay over the phone.

If you choose to pre-order a box lunch you will be responsible for the cost whether or not you are able to attend the program. The box lunches must be pre-ordered by 12 noon on May 16th and we need a minimum of 10 lunches in order to place the order. The KBA office will not have extra lunches available to purchase on the day of the program.

We will confirm all lunch requests once the order has been placed with Cafe Trio.
