Event Description:
The KBA Family Law Section presents a seminar entitled "Tax and Estate Planning Issues Regarding Property Settlements and Alimony Obligations". The program will feature Marshall H. Peterson, Holbrook Peterson & Smith, PLLC and Heather Craig, Holbrook Peterson & Smith, PLLC.

Topics of discussion will include:

• Premarital Agreements
• Life insurance issues
• Retirement plan issues
• S corporation ownership
• Transfer restrictions in business agreements
• IRC 1041 and transfers incident to divorce
• Claiming dependent deduction for income tax
• Income tax consequences of the various types of alimony under TN law
• Characterization of payments between former spouses as alimony or property settlement
• Tennessee Investment Services Trust (domestic asset protection trust under Tenn. Code Ann. 35-16-101, et seq.)
• Tennessee Community Property Trust under Tenn. Code Ann. 35-17-101, et seq.

You do not need to be a member of the section in order to attend the CLE program. KBA Members not wishing to receive CLE credit may attend the program at no charge (handout materials not included).

The program has been approved for one hour of general CLE credit.

A reservation is required in advance of the program - Five dollar fee additional the day of the program.

Attention: Box lunches are not available for this program. The PBA (public building authority) does not allow food or drink in the Main Assembly Room.
