Proudly Serving the Community

The Knoxville Bar Association is a private, non-profit professional organization which strives to provide the public with access to basic legal resources and services.   There is a wealth of information available on our site and we hope you will visit the site often as many new features are introduced.  If you wish to learn more about a local law firm or find a mediator, click on the tabs at the top of the page.  Please take a moment to browse the links on the left for a more detailed descriptions of our services.

Highlights include:

Lawyer Referral & Information Service which provides FREE lawyer referrals to individuals who do not have an attorney.

Consumer Legal Needs is a free public service program of the Knoxville Bar Association designed to help members of the community understand the law by means of information in easy-to-understand language. More than 70 different LawLine Online topics are available which help the public understand common legal problems, recognize potential legal problems and understand how the justice system works.

Speakers Bureau is offered as a free public service of the Lawyer Referral & Information Service. Presentations may be scheduled at local schools, colleges, community and civic clubs, church organizations and businesses for presentations to groups with 10 or more attendees.

Public education programs, like Community Law School and the Law Talk series allow participants eager to learn about the law to benefit from a broad overview of the legal system and information about specific areas of the law that concern every citizen. The basic objective of the programs is to create better-informed citizens who understand and fully appreciate our remarkable system for administering justice. Individuals who understand our laws, their purpose and their responsibilities and rights are more likely to respect the law and to be law-abiding and productive citizens. Law related education programs permit members of the Knoxville Bar to become "adjunct professors of law".

LawLine OnLine is a free public service program of the Knoxville Bar Association designed to help members of the community understand the law by means of information in easy-to-understand language available on the Internet. You will find a series of messages which aid in understanding common legal problems, recognizing potential legal problems and understanding how the justice system works.  Information on where to go if further help will be needed is also provided.  The messages are written in a straightforward, easy-to-understand manner using everyday language.  Although it is not intended to replace the advice of an attorney or to provide specific legal advice, the service provides general information on over 70 topics.

The Nonprofit Program is offered by the Knoxville Bar Association.  The KBA and its participating attorneys recognize that many small to mid-sized nonprofit organizations often have legal questions, but not the resources to retain legal counsel.  Participating attorneys provide up to one hour of pro bono legal assistance to 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations with a budget of $1,000,000 or less.  Through this partnership, nonprofit staff and board leaders are assured timely and accurate answers while providing attorneys with a satisfying, but not overwhelming way to perform pro bono services.

Pro Bono Project is a joint program of the KBA and the Knoxville Legal Aid Society that helps meet the legal needs of indigent clients.
