Recent reports reflect that the nation’s largest law firms (the AmLaw 200) suffered almost a 3% reduction in the number of legal positions over the period from January 2008 through October 2009. Out of 111,000 jobs in these large firms, over 3000 partners, associates, Of Counsel and contract lawyers were laid off, terminated, ”de-equitized” or otherwise ”shown the door”. More recent data is not yet available, but all lawyers know the bleeding has not stopped. Clients are refusing to pay increased rates and even demanding rate reductions of 25% or more. For the first time in US legal history, the most recent recession caused no increase in litigation revenue. Corporate clients are paying less in legal fees annually for the first time in anyone’s memory. What are the precipitating causes of this crisis? What steps are being taken to address it? How will the legal profession weather these unprecedented challenges? These and other questions will be addressed in Larry Bridgesmith’s address: What The Future Holds for the Legal Profession.=0D=0AProgram Cost:=0D=0A KBA Members - $ 35=0D=0A Non-KBA Members - $ 50=0D=0A Staff of KBA Members - $ 35=0D=0AA reservation is required in advance of the program - $ 5 dollar fee additional the day of the program.=0D=0A =0D=0ADirect KBA Link: www.knoxvillebar.org/index.php?option=3Dcom_content&view=3Darticle&id=3D8&pID=3D322&Itemid=3D5&form=3Dviewproduct=0D=0A
