Douglas Overbey, Robertson, Overbey, Wilson & Beeler=0D=0AJerome Melson, Gentry, Tipton & McLemore, P.C. - Moderator=0D=0A=0D=0ADo you ever find yourself needing to request a public record on behalf of a client?  This interactive Lunch & Learn will provide you with tips for effectively using the Tennessee Open Records Act (“TORA”) to obtain the records you need without having to get bogged down in a costly and time consuming paper chase.  Jerome Melson will host an interactive question and answer session with a panel of speakers, so that you can have your TORA question answered by the experts. The panel will include Ron Mills, City of Knoxville Deputy Law Director, John Gill, Knox County District Attorney General’s Office, Doug Overbey, State Senator and City Attorney for the City of Alcoa, and Elisha Hodge, Tennessee Open Records Counsel.  Some of the topics of discussion are expected to include:An overview of the Tennessee Open Records Act      (“TORA”); An overview of the state Office of Open Records      Council’s function and services provided to requestors and custodians; Discussion of procedure for submitting an TORA request; Discussion of procedure for custodians’ routine      handling of TORA requests; Discussion of common TORA issues/exemptions and how      they impact a custodian’s response to a request; andDiscussion of significant Open Records Council and      court decisions affecting access to government records.=0D=0AAll attendees are asked to submit questions by October 28th to Jerome Melson at ejm@tennlaw.com. =0D=0AApproved for 1 hour of general CLE credit.=0D=0A=0D=0AProgram Cost: =0D=0A=0D=0AKBA Members - $ 20 =0D=0ANon-KBA Members - $ 30=0D=0A KBA Law Student Members - No Charge=0D=0A Staff of KBA Members - $ 20=0D=0A=0D=0AKBA Members not wishing  to receive CLE credit may attend the program at no charge (handout materials not  included). A reservation is required in advance of the program. There is a $ 5  additional charge for registration on the day of the program. You do not need to  be a member of the section in order to attend the CLE program.=0D=0A =0D=0ABox Lunches from ”Cafe Trio” on Market Square:=0D=0A=0D=0AThe KBA will make arrangements with ”Cafe Trio” to deliver panini box  lunches for this CLE program. The box lunch will include a panini  sandwich, kettle chips, pickle & cookie. The KBA will provide water  and sodas. The cost of the box lunch is set at $ 10.00 and must be pre-ordered through the KBA website. Search for ”Box Lunches” under the CLE Catalog Tab to purchase your box lunch online or call the KBA office at 522-6522 to pay over the phone.=0D=0AIf you choose to pre-order a box lunch you will be responsible for  the cost whether or not you are able to attend the program. The box  lunches must be pre-ordered by 12 noon on November 1st and we  need a minimum of 10 lunches in order to place the order.
