Knoxville Bar Association Habitat Build 2013
Come Hammer with Us!
The roots of the Knoxville Bar Association Habitat for Humanity Project began nearly 20 years ago under the leadership of Sarah Sheppeard, who served as KBA President in 1994. Volunteer attorneys have carried the torch since then, making the project what it is today: a coordinated effort by hundreds of attorneys from firms across East Tennessee, each giving their time and frequently their money to support the cause of affordable, decent housing.
"It is really one of the best programs we have come up with at the [Knoxville] Bar . . . the beauty of the project is that it involves a large number of lawyers and really focuses on team building."
If you are interested in volunteering, please review the Volunteer Notes which includes details on the location of the house and parking specifics. The Release and Waiver of Liability on the last page must be returned as soon as possible.
Volunteers are needed to help construct the Habitat House on the following dates:
July 13 Blitz Day – 30 morning and 30 afternoon volunteers will be needed to work on exterior walls and trusses.
July 20 24 volunteers are needed to work on interior walls and roof shingles.
July 27 20 volunteers are needed to put up vinyl siding.
August 17 10 volunteers are needed to do interior painting.
August 24 14 volunteers are needed to handle trim and cabinets.
In addition, we will be seeking 5 alternates for each scheduled work day.
We want to make sure that KBA members have the opportunity to participate in this project. You are welcome to invite family members over the age of 16 to participate. However, remember that this is an opportunity to work side by side with your colleagues in the bar and to build memories as we construct this house.
