KBA Committees and Sections
The goal of the Government and Public Service Lawyers Section continues to be increasing communication among its members and fostering relationships with the bar as a whole. The Section strives to provide networking opportunities and meaningful programs to enhance the role of its diverse government and public service membership. The diversity of our membership is one of our greatest resources and one of our greatest challenges. Due to the nature of government and public service work, many of our members have few opportunities to be engaged with one another and with the bar as a whole. To foster our goal and to coordinate the "Exploring East Tennessee" CLE Series, attorneys from our section authored a series of short articles for DICTA throughout 2012 to introduce their favorite, lesser-known parts of East Tennessee such as the French Broad River, The Ocoee Ranger District, The Dragon, and Meades Quarry. In addition, the Section hosted a CLE in June entitled "Transforming Civility into Camaraderie: How to be a Better Lawyer" featuring Hon. C. Clifford Shirley, Jr., U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of Tennessee, which was well attended by both public and private sector attorneys. Our Section ended the year with a networking lunch meeting at which we discussed possible programming activities for 2013 that would be of interest to the section members and members of the Bar as a whole.
