KBA Committees and Sections
The Continuing Legal Education Committee oversaw and approved all KBA CLE programs sponsored by the KBA this year, raised money for the KBA, and made several recommendations to the Board of Governors regarding CLE policy issues. The CLE Committee, along with various KBA committees, substantive law sections, staff, volunteer speakers, and several third-party organizations, developed and implemented a wide variety of affordable and timely CLE seminars. By the end of this year, the KBA (via the CLE Committee) will have sponsored more than 89 live CLE events, over 90 online programs, while offering members more than 120 hours of live CLE credit and utilizing over 168 mostly volunteer speakers. Successful CLE formats include the Lunch & Learns Series, Extended Seminars, KBA Section Co-Sponsored Programs, KBA Committee Co-Sponsored Programs, Online CLE Programs (video based), Moderated Videotaped Replays, and Seminars Co-Sponsored with Third-Party Organizations. Programs with the highest attendance included: Law Day: No Courts, No Justice, No Freedom (242) featuring a distinguished panel, Law Practice Today Expo (229) featuring a host of speakers; Evidence Update (88) featuring Doug Trant and Tom Johnson; and Tennessee Badwomen (97) featuring Don Paine. The KBA also sponsored an Ethics Bowl seminar in December featuring several speakers including professors from the UT School of Law. The committee created a new series called "In Chambers: Q & A with our Judges". This series is a great opportunity for the newly licensed, younger generation and even seasoned attorneys to gain a better understanding of our judiciary system by interacting (by informal Q & A) with each participating Judge. More CLE credit has been, and is, being offered online via the KBA website. Plans are already underway for CLE programs for 2013. The main goal is to continue to create timely, educational, practice specific and interactive programs for the members of the KBA.
