Knoxville Bar Association Habitat Build 2013
We are reaching out to KBA members for assistance in making the 2013 KBA Habitat Home a reality for a Knoxville family.
Since 1994, the members of the KBA have been responsible for building six Habitat homes in the Knoxville area. This is an accomplishment that all of us can be proud of. As you may know, the Board of Governors, on behalf of the KBA, has already committed to partnering with Habitat once again to build the seventh KBA Habitat house starting in July.
Before our volunteers can begin swinging hammers, there is one other critical component that the KBA must put in place. As a covenant partner with Habitat, the KBA has committed to raising $20,000, which is one-half of the cost of the materials to build this home. The KBA's financial commitment is not a hand-out, but a hand-up to a hard working family. The family who will ultimately live in the home we build must put in 500 hours of sweat equity building other people's homes before they are even eligible for their own Habitat home. Additionally, the family will take on a 20-year mortgage in order to cover the other half of the cost of construction.
