Tell us about your practice concentration.
Since starting work for Susano & Sheppeard in 1992, the focus of my practice has been domestic relations matters. I have handled divorces, post-divorce co-parenting and child support, juvenile court matters, parentage actions, and Orders of Protection. I received training as a Rule 31 Civil Mediator in 2002, and have been mediating cases regularly since then. I have served as a Special Master in Fourth Circuit Court hearing Orders of Protection numerous times throughout the past 10 years. In that court, I have also been appointed as a Guardian ad Litem in a complicated co-parenting matter involving both parents and grandparents. I have served as a Special Master for divorce matters in Knox County Chancery Court as well.
What attributes do you possess that make you qualified for this position?
First and foremost would be knowledge of the law as it pertains to the matters that will come before this Court. A close second, however, would be my extensive experience in addressing issues that regularly arise in family cases such as psychological testing, the use of expert witnesses, and complicated financial matters such as business valuations and accounting for the use or misuse of marital funds. I also understand and appreciate that the parties before the Court are experiencing tremendous uncertainty and stress while their cases are pending whether their case is an Order of Protection, a divorce case, or a post-divorce matter involving co-parenting and child support matters. Finally, I have the work ethic and willingness to make the changes needed to improve how the families of Knox County are served by this Court.
