KBA President Adrienne L. Anderson presided over the Annual Meeting of
the Knoxville Bar Association on Friday, December 12, 2008. More than 300
lawyers and judges were in attendance. Ms. Anderson announced that the following
KBA members were elected as officers for 2009: Samuel C. Doak -
President-Elect, Michael J. King - Treasurer and J. William Coley
- Secretary. The membership elected the following KBA members to the four open
positions on the Board of Governors: Heidi A. Barcus, James M.
Cornelius, Jr., T. Lynn Tarpy and Hon. Sharon G. Lee. In
addition to these officers elected, Thomas R. Ramsey, III assumed the
presidency of the Knoxville Bar Association at the close of the meeting.
Tom Ramsey has longstanding ties to our community. He was raised in Kingsport,
is a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School, the University of Tennessee and the
University of Memphis Law School. Mr. Ramsey is a partner at the firm of Ramsey
Elmore, PLLC, where he and his partner, Scott Elmore, focus on estate planning,
probate, corporation planning and real estate. In addition to his active
practice, Mr. Ramsey is coach of the West Valley Middle School Soccer team.
Mr. Ramsey thanked the Knoxville lawyers for the honor of representing and
serving them, stating that, “I appreciate each and every KBA member for their
service to the KBA and their commitment to professionalism and public service.”
In addition, Mr. Ramsey stated that the hallmark of the Knoxville Bar
Association is the commitment of its members to insure that the practice of law
is conducted in the most professional and civil standards available.
Pamela L. Reeves was presented the highest award of the Knoxville Bar
Association, the prestigious Governor’s Award. In presenting the award, Bill
Vines, stated “Pam is a hard worker. Pam is an excellent advocate. Pam is highly
respected. Pam has truly practiced in an exemplary fashion…Pam has to be one of
the most admired and loved attorneys in the history of the Knoxville Bar
Association. She is deserving of its highest award.”
The 2008 President’s Awards were presented to Maurice Guinn, Doug Lynn
and O.E. (Sonny) Schow IV for taking on the enormous task of inventorying
the files of two deceased attorneys. These three KBA members donated countless
hours and the local bench and bar is grateful to them for their dedication.

Deb House, Assistant Director, Legal Aid of East Tennessee, recognized
members of the bar who have been leaders in the public service arena and
announced that April 4, 2009 will be Public Service Day, when attorneys will
have the opportunity to provide legal services to those who are unable to afford
representation.

Doug Lynn, Sonny Schow and Maurice Guinn were recognized as the recipients of
the 2008 Presidents Award. The three received plaques honoring their many hours
of work in handling the Rule 9 appointments regarding the files of two deceased
local attorneys.

2008 KBA President Adrienne Anderson thanked Marsha Wilson, KBA Executive
Director, Laura Myers and Heather Anderson for organizing the first-ever Golden
Gala, recognizing attorneys who have practiced law for 50 or more years.

Chancellor Daryl Fansler, Mike Ewell and Jon Roach receive thanks and
recognition for completing their terms on the Board of Governors.

Andrew McRee and Latisha Stubblefield were two of the new admittees to the
Tennessee Bar recognized at the annual meeting.

Amanda Busby and Susan Herndon, co-chairs of the CLE Committee, recognized
the 107 speakers who participated in KBA CLE seminars in 2008. Susan has been
Co-Chair of the CLE Committee for eight years.
